The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist

Sometimes the World is truly a stereotypical wonderland of absurdity. On this day 15 years ago Canadian Police started arresting people who were apart of The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist, which is as wild of a story as the name suggests. Here’s the breakdown…

Some sticky finger insiders knew about a massive syrup stockpile controlled by a Maple Syrup Cartel of sorts in Quebec & decided to go full Ocean’s 11 on it. The crew managed to siphon off 6 million pounds of delicious syrup from the barrels, and then replace it with water to cover their tracks. They were hoping to make roughly 20 MILLION DOLLARS if they pulled it off. They didn’t. Eventually, after an inventory check foiled their plan and the stolen syrup was recovered. Poor saps.

No wonder the rest of the World doesn’t take us seriously, when one of the biggest robberies in Canadian history was called “The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist.” The only thing that would have made it more Canadian is instead of jail-time the thieves just had to say “sorry” a few times.
