Nordic Spa In Edmonton

Scandinave Group Inc. is one step closer to building a Nordic spa on land currently owned by the University of Alberta trust on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. This after Edmonton’s city council approved the rezoning of a 10-acre spot in the Brander Gardens neighborhood (west of Whitemud Drive near 53rd Avenue). The biggest cause for concern for those that oppose it was the top of the river bank and the land below, and making sure the eco-system is protected and that there are still walking trails for the residents of the area. A similar project almost happened in 2019, but the developer and council couldn’t reach terms on a land deal. But this one looks like a go!

Personally, I’m totally down for adding things to our city that can be enjoyed by residents year round and specifically activities and facilities that can be embraced in the colder months. Also, it undoubtedly will add some tourism bucks to the city, which is a win as well. My biggest concern is that there will be older men who get totally naked, like the sauna in my gym. Apparently that’s pretty common overseas, but I get a little weirded out watching dudes rest their sweaty things on the bench, you know? Anyway.

Scandinave Group Inc. already has four Nordic spas in Canada. Mont-Tremblant, Montreal, north of Toronto & Whistler. You can check out those properties here https://www.scandinave.com if you want an idea of what’s likely coming our way!
